Today is Tip #8 in The Recruitment Trainers Thursday Tip series!
Each Thursday, for 12 weeks, I am committing to sharing one recruitment tip a week with you. A sliver of potential magic you can try for yourself ✨
It won’t take long to read. It won’t take long to implement. And it WILL make a difference. You might find this series useful for yourself, or feel free to forward on to your team!
Without further ado, let’s check out Tip #8 💡
Let’s look at how to create and increase influence on your candidate process. If we don’t have influence, we don’t have a relationship – and if we don’t have a relationship, we won’t be able to place them in a suitable role.
So, how can we build influence with our candidates?
💡Show your knowledge
When you speak to your candidates, name-drop! Tell them about current clients when possible, and current networking opportunities. Share what you know about the market. Salary surveys etc. are good and they are always a great talking point. Try and delve deeper into these; ask for their opinion, and ask what other surveys/ research they would be interested to read.
💡Set expectations
Explain how you will work with them. Set out your expectations in regard to feedback, communication, and honesty, and give them the benefits of working in this way. Show you are on their side, whilst also being clear about how the recruitment process will work if you are to work together. Explain what you need to know about any changes, other interviews and offers and again, make sure you are selling the benefits – this includes a better understanding of their needs, a more agile approach to their search and so on. It is not used as an opportunity to tell them off or make them worried. You need to show in your language you are on their side.
💡Tell them a story
Give them examples of what has worked well with other candidates, and share the stories of where things haven’t worked out and why. Give them proof of what you are sharing and always base them on real-life scenarios; don’t make things up! An honest example will have more impact on them, as well as being the right thing to do.
💡Spend time with them
A rushed call will not get you the results you need. Spend time getting to know your candidates, and you will both be rewarded.
I’d love to answer any questions you might have, so feel free to leave a comment or send a DM and let me know how you get on with this week’s tip 😊
